St. Andrew's Church
St. Andrew's church, the monument of the 18th century (1746-61). It is an inspired Baroque interpretation of the traditional Ukrainian five-domed, cross-shaped church by Rastrelli. Its richly decorated interior features a three-tiered iconostasis & several paintings from the 18th century. The slender curves of its blue, white, gold & green exterior stand out against the skyline.
Kyivo-Pecherskaya Lavra Monastery
Kyiv Pechersk Lavra Monastery was founded as the first Ortodox Monastery in Kyiv Rus in 1051. It has become the largest religious establishment in the country. It bears the name of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra binding its foundation in the catacombs and since the 12th century it bears the name of Lavra. Spread across wooded slopes above the Dnipro, it is a unique array of gold-domed churches, underground labyrinths lined with holy relics. In 1926 the Upper Grounds were declared the National Museum, one of which has a hoard of Scythian gold.
St. Sophia Cathedral

It is the city's oldest standing church built in 1037 in honor of Prince Yaroslav's victory over a rival tribe Pechenegs. Grand prince of Kyiv Yaroslav the Wise intended to enlarge and beatify the city and he started with the construction of the cathedral which became not only a holy place but also a very important state's political, cultural and administrative center. All ambassadorial receptions, crowning of princes, signing of treaties were held here. The first school and library were also set up in St. Sophia Cathedral.
The museum of Folk Architecture and Life "Pirogovo"
Situated right outside of Kyiv, Pirogovo consists of 6 parts, each representing a different region of Ukraine. It's basically a simulation of Ukrainian life from 16th century to this day. Ironically, the actual village of Pirogovo is right outside the 'fake' one, and life there has really been the same for centuries.
When the weather is nice Pirogovo is probably the best place to relax, take a walk and enjoy the peace so close to the city.
Various types of houses, churches and mills either brought from or constructed as originals from different regions of Ukraine. The construction of Pirogovo began only in 1969 but the look and feel of 17th and 18th centuries has been successfully recreated. Inside the houses there are usually souvenirs shops, in the churches you can see icons, old altars and other religious items.
There are several restaurants and cafes inside as well as a shashlik place so you can rest and try all kinds of traditional Ukrainian food. The craftsmen have a little market there so you can look and buy away - handmade table cloths, embroidery, shoes, wooden kitchenware, accessories, sculptures, pictures, hats and more is on sale. You can also take a ride in a horse carriage.
